What is the Junior Historian Program?

The Junior Historian Program gives students in grades five through twelve an opportunity to learn about the history of Henry County, Ohio and the United States. The objective of the program is to develop future historians and make learning history FUN! The Junior Historian Program is sponsored by the Henry County Historical Society Joyce Colwell Education Fund.

What do the Junior Historians do for fun?

The Junior Historians can take part in various program activities. Activities are designed for the different level of grades.
Some activities include:
  • Playing historic games
  • Listening to speakers on various topics
  • Learning historic crafts
  • Designing the museum exhibits
  • Creating physical models of history
  • Photographing artifacts
  • Imagining the past
  • Learning about their family’s history

Where and when do the Junior Historians Meet?

The Junior Historians will meet at two different locations in Henry County. The Henry County Historical Society’s Museum is a perfect location for learning about history, with a collection of over 250 artifacts on display. The Main Branch of the Napoleon Public Library with their Ohio Room, is another great way to learn about history! They meet one Saturday morning a month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

What do the Junior Historians learn about history?

The Junior Historians take part in the history education program designed especially for them.

Junior Historians learn:

  • What a historical society and museums are about.
  • What occupations have developed for the “Study of History”.
  • How Henry County was formed and developed.
  • How families lived.
  • How to preserve the past and the present.
Who can join the Junior Historian Program?

All students in grades five through twelve in Henry County are welcome to join. Junior Historians are not required to be members of the Henry County Historical Society.

What is the cost for the Junior Historian Program?

This program is FREE to all Henry County Students.

Parents are responsible for their child’s transportation to and from the meeting site. You are encouraged to stay!
